Fabric security: everything you need to know!
by Kasper de Jonge

Microsoft Fabric is an all-in-one analytics solution for enterprises that covers everything from data movement to data science, Real-Time Analytics, and business intelligence. It offers a comprehensive suite of services, including data lake, data engineering, and data integration, all in one place.

Microsoft Fabric is a SaaS (Software as a Service) platform which works differently than a PaaS (Platform as a Service) like Azure. With the Fabric SaaS service, you are getting a lot of security features out of the box that you might now be aware of to allow you to secure your data estate.

In this session we will look at how Fabric secures your data, we will look at all the aspects of security of the Fabric platform:
– Understand how users authenticate,
– Understand inbound security options ,
– How can you access your secure data,
– Where and how is your data stored and where does it go when used,
– How to make sure your data is only accessible for certain users.
– Finally, how to govern your data with Purview integration.

This will make sure you understand what you get out of the box with Fabric and have the discussion with your security team!

Kasper de Jonge is a Principal Program Manager on the Microsoft Fabric team, where he has worked on developing features for Power BI, Power Pivot and SSAS. Currently he is working in the Fabric Customer Advisory Team. He is a frequent speaker at conferences such as Ignite, MBSAS, SQLPASS, and SQLSaturday. His blog can be found at http://www.kasperonbi.com and can also be found at twitter http://twitter.com/kjonge. He is also author of Dashboarding & Reporting with Power BI: How to Design and Create a Financial Dashboard with Power BI .

An introduction to DBT for Microsoft Fabric
by André Kamman

The Data Engineer space is on fire, and new tools and techniques are showing up at breakneck speed.
Some of them seem to get more traction than others. DBT, or Data Build Tool, seems to be one of those highly popular tools.

Even though Fabric is fairly new, it already supports dbt. Let me take you on a 2-part introduction journey to show you what dbt does, I’m convinced you want to try it out as soon as I’m done presenting. I’ll demo the automated workflow, lineage and built in data quality tests. And after that I’ll show how it works together with Fabric, making the whole journey even smoother.

Engineers will love this because it forces standardization and engineering processes like GIT and even CI/CD for your data pipelines. Analysts will love it because they can run with it and “just write sql” (sorta kinda) instead of having to request engineer time.

it’s an opinionated tool, I’m counting on some strong debates from the audience!

André is a So-Called Modern Data Engineer and architect mostly in Azure. He has done a lot of DBA work on 1000’s of servers where he discovered his love for Powershell, architecting SQL Server solutions, building and tuning ETL processes (with BIML), and even implementing PDW. Having to wrangle a lot of data he’s using Python, SparkSQL in Azure Databricks, Data Factory, Synapse and Power BI as well these days. André is a Data Platform MPV since 2009, Dutch Microsoft Data Platform Meetup lead, organiser of Data Saturday Holland and Data & BI track volunteer for Techorama Holland
